Raleigh parish calls Michael Green
Holy Trinity Church of Raleigh, established in 2004 and a member of the Anglican Communion Network, has announced the appointment of Canon Michael Green as co-rector.
Canon Green, a resident of Oxford, England, is a world-renowned Anglican preacher, evangelist, and writer. He holds numerous academic degrees, including both baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Oxford University in classics, philosophy and ancient history; baccalaureate and master’s degrees in divinity from Cambridge University; and an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Lambeth, conferred rarely at the sole discretion of the Archbishop of Canterbury for distinguished service to the Church of England. In 1992, he received an honorary doctor of divinity from the University of Toronto.
Canon Green was lecturer in New Testament at the London College of Divinity from 1960 to 1969, and principal at St. John’s College, Nottingham, from 1970 to 1975. He served as rector of St. Aldate’s Church in Oxford from 1975 to 1987 and was professor of Evangelism and New Testament at Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia, from 1987 to 1992. He served for 10 years as the adviser in evangelism to both the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York. Canon Green holds the position of senior research fellow at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University. He has extensive preaching and leadership experience in evangelistic missions on every continent on the globe since 1962.
Canon Green has written and published over 50 books, including But Don’t All Religions Lead to God?, Evangelism in the Early Church, Thirty Years That Changed the World, Sharing Your Faith With A Friend, Critical Choices, Who Is This Jesus?, I Believe In The Holy Spirit, The Empty Cross of Jesus and Avoiding Jesus: Twelve Reasons For Avoiding Jesus Christ and Why They Won’t Work.
The Books the Church Suppressed, which engages The Da Vinci Code, will be published in the United States in January.
Canon Green is joined at Holy Trinity Church by his wife of over 40 years, Rosemary, who has also taught extensively and is licensed as a lay preacher by both the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. The Greens have four grown children, one of whom is a long-term missionary in Pakistan and Jordan.
At Holy Trinity Church, Canon Green joins David T. Drake, who was appointed co-rector in July and is a native of New Canaan, Connecticut. He served as regional director of FOCUS (Fellowship of Christians in Universities and Schools), first in Washington, D.C., and later in Boston. In 2005 he was graduated from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, where he was a Leighton Ford Scholar. He is joined in Raleigh by his wife, Kristin, and three daughters.
Holy Trinity Church holds Sunday School at 9 a.m. and worship services at 10 a.m. every Sunday at All Saints’ Chapel, St. David’s School, 3400 White Oak Road in Raleigh.
