Bishop-elect Bill Atwood

Bishop-elect Bill Atwood had an awakening of faith in 1972 while serving as a pilot in the US Air Force. That led to a vocation to pursue ordained ministry. He received theological training at Mercer School of Theology in Long Island and Kings College in London England. In 1989, he received a Doctorate in Church Growth (Development) from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA.

Ordained in 1979, Canon Atwood has served congregations in a variety of settings. He currently serves as the General Secretary of Ekklesia under a council of Anglican Primates and Archbishops, often circling the world in diplomatic shuttling. Ekklesia member bishops oversee more than 40,000,000 of the world’s Anglicans in over thirty countries. He has ministered extensively in Kenya and many other African nations. Ekklesia holds conferences for advancing the faith and is involved in many development projects such as equipment and supplies for medical clinics, bicycles for clergy, radio stations, and tons of grain for famine relief. Ekklesia has also provided Commercial fishing boats in Central Africa.

He is the author of many resources on mission, evangelism, and church growth and has served as a consultant to about twenty denominations. His books include Wild Vine~Fruitful Vine: Crisis in the Anglican Communion; Are we there yet? The Journey to be like Jesus; and a new book on the Kingdom of God, Here and Coming: as it is in heaven, to be released shortly.

Bill has been married for more than thirty years and has two daughters, one son-in-law and one granddaughter.
