Representatives of 63 Congregations Meet in Kansas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 24, 2006

Overland Park, KS - Clergy and lay leaders of 63 American congregations under the Anglican provinces of Uganda, Southern Cone (South America), Kenya and Central Africa gathered at Christ Church, Overland Park, Kansas, from March 22–24, 2006. These American churches of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which are also partners with the Anglican Communion Network, gathered at the invitation of the Network Moderator, the Rt. Rev. Robert Duncan.

The participants acted unanimously to create an International Conference of Network partners. The purpose of the International Conference is to meet pastoral and missional needs and bring coherence among the growing number of U.S. congregations under temporary overseas jurisdictions. Mindful of those who will follow their lead, the International Conference partners pledged their commitment to work together to build a biblical, missionary and united movement of Anglicans in North America. The partners also gratefully affirmed their solidarity with their overseas bishops.

The worship and prayer that characterized this gathering displayed the three great streams of global Anglicanism: Anglo-Catholic, Charismatic and Evangelical. The International Conference launched initiatives to plant churches, cooperate in global missionary activities, and evangelize and disciple the next generations. The group emphasized its intention to increase ministry partnership with other orthodox Anglicans in the United States.
